Telling Time Math Games

Hi, friends!  I wanted to let you know that I added the final game to my Math Games on the Fly Bundle, the "Telling Time" game pack.  This is such a fun pack with lots of variety!  If you're new to my blog, these "On the Fly" games are intended to be minimal prep for those times when you just need a little something to supplement your current Math {or Spelling!!} instruction.  Below are a few of my favorites:

Spin and Color--This simple game has kids spin and search for a matching time on the provided recording sheet.  Any time a paperclip is involved, it's an added bonus!  #novelty

Roll and Read--This is a great way to get kids recognizing analog AND digital times!  Just add a die and some chips and you're ready to play!  This can be a partner OR individual game!

Tic-Tac-Time--What 6 year old doesn't love Tic-Tac-Toe?  I mean, I still enjoy it as an adult so...

Connect 4--And who doesn't love Connect 4?!?!?!

Write-the-Room--There are MANY variations of this activity included!  This is always a fun, Friday review!

Time Chips

Happy Hump Day! I thought I would share a fun find with you tonight, instead of eating dinner, of course.  I only burnt over 1,000 calories at the gym and am famished...but you know how blogger goes! It's addicting!

Anyhoot, I found these time chips a few weeks ago and LOVE them!  I used them in a Math tub this week (the tub that is with the teacher) and was able to quickly assess who has mastered time to the hour and half hour and who is still struggling.  Below are some pictures about how I use them.  *We also did some slate work (writing digital time to match an analog chip).  You must get these for next year!

Telling Time

This week, we began studying time.  We started by investigating several types of tools used for time:

-Calendar

-Timer

-Stopwatch

-Wristwatch

-Clock (digital and analog)

Next, we explored our own clocks at our seats and I did an informal pre-assessment by quickly walking around to each student and asking them to show me a time on the clock. I could see right away who had some prior knowledge about telling time, and who did not. 

We read several books along the way...Here's a few favorites:

Last, we made our own tools for time.  Students had their choice of what they wanted to make. They also had to write about one reason telling time is important. I passed out some clipart graphics for them to refer to during the art project.
