Whew! I survived week 1 of conferences! It was rough but I did! I get so tired so easily, and I am only 32. I often ask myself, "How will I do this when I am in my 60's?" Any seasoned teachers out there wish to share? We have conferences Thursday night 5:00-9:00 and then Friday all day 8:00-3:00. THEN we have them next Thursday night 5:00-8:00, also. Is it just me or is that insane? Yeah, thought so. I'd rather do them all in one week. Two late nights=not a fun time.
Anyone have any good weekend plans? We went out with some friends last night and then today I'm heading over to my bestie's house for breakfast. Later, I'll do my usual Saturday routines of running errands and spending unnecssary money on stuff for school. Hubby and I may hit up a movie tonight. Anyone see anything good lately? We have seen Captain Phillips {which was awesome but so awful at the same time, you know?} as well as Gravity {also awesome}. Tomorrow we are meeting my family about an hour away for a little Christmas festival. Hooray! Oh, and my house is fully decorated for Christmas and has been for 2 weeks. I'm obsessed!!!!! Sometimes I wish I could just skip over fall and move immediately from summer to Christmas! BUT we must take time to recognize fall and all its beauty! Which leads me into today's post: fall.
My friend Jen over at The Teacher's Cauldron is having a Thanksgiving book linky and when I saw it, I knew I had to link up! One of my favorite activities I do in the classroom all year is Pilgrim Day! I posted about how I run it here, so be sure to read it if you haven't yet! It's seriously so much fun! The kids LOVE it! We dress in pilgrim hats, do school work like pilgrim kids did, play games pilgrim children played, hunt and do "chores," write about pilgrim life, and much, much more! We use everything in my "Pilgrim Day" pack throughout our day! We also read tons of picture books throughout the day. Click the Pilgrim Day cover to check it out! I'm pumped! And since we are on the topic of fall, I must share our annual Leaf Man projects! We gathered items we needed for homework last week and read our Leaf Man book and poem several days. On Thursday, we collected our thoughts and went to town making our Leaf People/Animals! This was the best year by far for these! I have such a creative group! Love the fish and the turtle! *If you do this project, I suggest asking for parent volunteers. I have the students assemble their projects and then I hot glue every.little.piece.down.one.by.one. It is a LOT for one person to do, but somehow I manage!!
