Pilgrim Day

For several years, I have been having Pilgrim Day in my classroom.  It's a day full of experiencing life in the past.  The students eat it up!  It’s hard for kids to envision life in the past.  With all the toys, television, and technology we want at our fingertips, it’s easy to understand why!

During Pilgrim Day, students hunt and gather, churn butter, play games and tell riddles, and learn like pilgrim children learned!  It doesn't get any more authentic than that!

We spend the day experiencing pilgrim life while reading books from my suggested book list.  We also compare and contrast boys vs. girls as well as pilgrim children vs. children now.  Of course Pilgrim Day would NOT be complete without some writing {you know how I love it!}.  We finish the day with a mini-book all about pilgrim children.

And one more thing...I recently met Susanna, creator and mastermind behind "Whimsy Workshop Teaching."  She was so easy to work with and has great graphics!  Be sure to check out her store and become a new follower here!
