Look Out!! It's Magic e!!

Hello to all of my new followers and Happy New Year!  I'm glad you are here!  I hope you had a relaxing winter break and are ready for the second half of the school year!

As we transition back to school after winter break, we'll spend a week reviewing previous word chunks by playing games and doing activities to coincide.  Our first week back is a short one--just 4 days with Monday being a day off for New Years observation.  The following week, I'll formally introduce "Magic e" to my first graders.  This is one of my favorite Phonics concepts to teach!  I think the reason I love it so much is because this skill really helps them take off with their reading!  I also enjoy all of the super fun activities that I've created over the years that help the kids practice the skill.  This post is dedicated so sharing some ideas for teaching Magic e.

I always start out with my Magic e wand.  *Template for making this is included in my Magic e pack that I'll link below.*  The kids practice on their desk mats and I model at the front of the room.  This activity alone really gives kids an understanding of the concept.  I do this more than once throughout the week.

We practice Magic e in centers, guided reading {groups that are needing more with it}, and class all week long {and sometimes the following week if necessary}.  We practice our poem for fluency, do slate work, flashcards, fluency strips, play-doh, magnetic letters, games, and more!  By Friday, most kids have a good grasp on Magic e.

If you'd like to check out ALL of my Magic e resources, click each cover below!  *The bulk of the activities {and the wand I mentioned above} can be found in the first pack below!

xo,
Megan
