3D Shapes

I am back at work this week...blah!  Spring break was so relaxing and nice.  I am looking forward to summer and no stress.  The week before break, we were learning about shapes.  We did both 2D and 3D.
{click here to see my 2D shapes post} Below are some pictures from our 3D shape learning.  We read lots of good books and made 3D shapes with toothpicks and marshmallows.  The kids loved it!!!!  As we transition back this week, we'll be doing this 3D shape sort that I created.  I wanted the kids to have authentic objects to sort.  Click the cover picture to get it for free!

What fun ideas do you have for teaching 3D shapes?

Love the marshmallows and toothpicks idea! I am going to have to remember that for when 3D shapes come up in our math series!

Very fun idea for 3D shapes. I've used kinex and other similar products... but the marshmallows and toothpicks look like so much more fun!

I too have done the marshmallows and toothpicks. The kids love that one! I have these 3D shapes that you can unfold so the kids can look at all the bases. We also build different things with them.

I actually just came out with my Geometry for Common Core 1st grade pack the other day. There is a link on my blog if you want to check it out!

Great freebie! My students need some extra practice with 3-d shapes, so I'll be using this for sure!

We have kiddos bring in stuff from home...boxes (rectangular prisms), paper towel rolls (cylinders), and party hats (cones), then make geo animals out of them by taping the 3-D shapes together. It is fun to see what they create!
