Hello, Winter!

To kick off January, I wanted to take a moment to showcase my Winter Centers!   Before leaving for California, I got everything printed, laminated, and cut.  Several of them are currently in my literacy centers and Math tubs at school waiting for my firsties to return on January 6!

I am so happy with the updates that I've made to the winter centers.  I added a lot of new activities and changed quite a bit, so if you purchased these last year, be sure to re-download!  What I adore about this pack is that it can be used all.winter.long.  The activities are centered around the Common Core Standards for First Grade but this pack would be very appropriate for advanced kinders OR second graders needing intervention.

There are recording sheets for just about every activity, but if you are limited to copies, I recommend using these clear sleeves and vis-à-vis pens!  You could also laminate a few recording sheets if you have access to a laminator!

Winter Spin: This is a great independent activity that gives young children practice with data collecting.  It's very simple; just add a paperclip to create a spinner, spin, tally, and complete the bar graph and questions!  Fun!

Winter Three-Addend Addition: Students will sort the cards by the addition facts and sums.  Next, they will match them, and finally record the facts and sums on the recording sheet.

Winter Number Pattern Match: Students will figure out the 'rules' by looking at the patterns on each stocking.  They will match the 'rule' to each list of number patterns.  They will record the numbers in the stockings on their recording sheets.  My kids LOVE these activities!  These are great for enrichment!

Winter Singular/Plural Nouns: It's always good to continually reinforce old concepts with young children, especially after the winter break!  This is a good 'ol singular and plural noun sort with a winter theme.  Students will use their words to write sentences on the back of their paper.  There are lines and numbers to help students.

Contraction Match:  Students will sort the cards into two piles:  the cards with two words and the cards with contractions.  They will work to match the cards together and write the words and contractions on their recording sheets when finished.  Students will use their words to write sentences on the back of their paper.  There are lines and numbers to help students.

Compound Word Match:  Students will match the two words to create compound words and write all components on their recording sheets!  Students will use their words to write sentences on the back of their paper.  There are lines and numbers to help students.

Beginning Blends:  This is always a fun activity!  Students select a card, and using a vis-à-vis marker, they write in the beginning blend and then copy the entire word onto their recording sheets.  You could always have them just copy the word on the recording sheet if you do not want/have time to use vis-à-vis.  Students will use their words to write sentences on the back of their paper.  There are lines and numbers to help students.

Winter Sentence Scramble:  Students will review the features of a sentence by placing the mixed up cards in order and write them on the recording sheet.

Winter Parts of Speech:  Students can always use practice sorting nouns, verbs, and adjectives! They will sort their cards and write them on the corresponding pages of the mini-books.  *Tip: Prep your mini-books ahead of time!  This activity can be done whole-group at a pocket chart, as well.

CvC & CvCe Activities:  There are several activities to reinforce these words.  Included: board game and two read/write the room activities.

There are many more great activities included, which are not shown here {winter abc order, winter writing prompts, Base-10 match, numbers before and after, non-standard measurement, and missing addend}!  This pack will be on sale through Friday!  I hope that you will take a look!  Just click the cover shown at the top of the page.
