Christmas Gifts for Parents, Community Building, and a Guest Post

I don't always have my kids make a gift for their parents...I know, I know!  But things are soo insane during this time of year, sometimes it just doesn't happen.  My teammates all made things this year so I felt pressured!  I decided I need an easy and quick idea this year.  You can never go wrong with salt-dough ornaments! I made the dough last night.  I went with stockings for everyone so there wasn't an ordeal about picking the ornament they wanted! Here is what you need:

4 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 and 1/2 cups warm water

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.  Mix the dry ingredients and then slowly add water.  Knead the dough until soft and pliable.  Roll out on floured surface (1/8 inch thick).  Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes you desire.  Using a drinking straw, punch a hole at the top.  Bake until light brown and firm (about 1 hour or so).  Let cool fully.

I used tempera paint and they turned out fine!  One or two were crackled, but I think it was just the paint.   To finish, I let my kids choose a ribbon and I tied it on.  I wrote the year on the back with a Sharpie.
*I didn't have them paint the back..Tomorrow, we will "wrap them" in little treat bags from Hobby Lobby.  Below are some pictures! I love how they turned out!  I will be doing this every year from now on!

Also, my friend Susan at TGIF shared a sweet little stocking stuffer community building activity with me.  I made the stockings for my students (time saver...) and ran copies of the papers.  They've been stuffing each others' stockings for the past week and a half! They love them! They are just like bucket fillers, but for the holiday time! Tomorrow (our last day) they will take them home!

One more thing...I guest blogged over at Primary Possibilities! Be sure to visit their site, read my post, and follow their blog! Love those ladies!

Your ornaments turned out cute! I am so BAD at making salt dough ornaments. I always have to come up with something different.
