Holidays Around the World and Freebies!

Happy weekend! Only 17 days left until Christmas! Last week, we learned about how other countries celebrate their holidays.  I am sharing Mexico and Israel with you today.  We started with Mexico and Los Pasados.  We read Legend of the Poinsettia by Tomie DePaola, completed a writing prompt, and made these beautiful poinsettias.  We've done these for several years, and I've changed how I've done them each year.  To see how we did them last year, click here.  To make the sponges, I cut the cheap foam sponges in the shape of petals and leaves.  Note: your hand will hurt after cutting!!!  This art project takes a lot of modeling.  I always model an entire poinsettia first before letting them have at it.

We did this 3-addend addition read the room.  Click the pic for your freebie!  We also read a few other books and made our own mini-books about Los Posadas!  To get the mini-book, click below.

Students learned about Hanukkah, as well.  We read a few books, played dreidl.  I got my dreidls at Target and CVS many years ago.  We also learned the dreidl song and did some activities from Stephany's freebie!  I like her little word search and latkes recipe!  We'll also be doing some Hanukkah "facts" writing from my "Holiday Celebrations" pack!  I love that I can easily differentiate the paper {3 choices} for my students.

To make the dreidls, you need: pretzel sticks, vanilla frosting, sprinkles, hershey kisses and big marshmallows.

For Christmas, we had a surprise visitor come! A magic elf showed up as a "Special Delivery" on Monday!
He's been sneaking around our room and spying on us!

"Special Delivery" to Mrs. Wheeler's Room!
We named him Magic!
Magic and Pete had a marshmallow fight while we were away!   Thanks, Michelle for the cute idea!

My class has been busy playing games from my Christmas center pack.  Click the pic to check it out.  Here's a few of the games in action!

Antonym match & recording sheet
We've been doing some fun art projects in our room, as well! We did Reagan's "Techy Santa" and the kids loved it!

I love that she put "My family!"
I have a Grinch freebie for you!  It was in my store, but I took it down because I found out that I couldn't sell anything like this due to copyright issues.  This little pack includes a short i sort, 2 writing prompts, a Grinch poem (originally inspired off of Pinterest) and a Grinch sight word game.  Hope you enjoy it! I appreciate and enjoy reading your comments! Leave some love!
