Symmetry Butterflies

Today we continued to discuss symmetry.  Students had a great time making these butterflies and creating their own "lines of symmetry" by only painting a design on one side of the butterfly.  They folded at the line and were astonished that they had 2 symmetrical butterfly wings! Grab the pattern here.  Cut it in half.  Trace the half on heavy cardstock for tracing templates for your students.  They trace the half on their construction paper at the fold, cut, and voila! A butterfly!

Step 1-Fold & Trace
Step 2-Paint one half
Be sure to SLOP on the paint thick!!!
Step 3-Fold and watch a symmetrical butterfly appear!
