Writing Workshop Tidbits

I love writing time! I also like giving others ideas for writing workshop.  Here are some of my best and simplest tips for conferring during the workshop!

I like to carry this conferring caddy with me. It has all the supplies I might need while conferring with a student (highlighters/yellow markers, pencils, stapler, red pens, slate/rag/marker, erasers, my notebook, extra paper, tape, etc.)  No need to run to my desk when I have this with me.

I have tried many ideas for assessment during the workshop over the years.  I have found that using composition notebooks is the best for me.  I put each child's name on a page and then skip a few pages between names.  There is no question who I am conferring with next; I simply go in order of the notebook.  This comes in very handy for the next time I confer with a child, as well as when doing report cards or having parent meetings.  Play around and see what works best for you-checklist, notebook, etc...

fantastic idea! I too use a comp. notebook, after trying notecards on a clipboard, sticky notes, etc.

Great Idea! I also have a caddy at my writing table/center. But I will be adding a few of the things you mentioned to make it more complete. Thanks!

I love the 5 W sticks and the fingers! I also use a composition notebook after several years of trying different things. Thanks for sharing your great ideas!
