Recently, we've been learning about number comparisons. To practice this skill in a more exciting way, I gave my students Expo markers, a tissue, and two pretzel sticks. I dictated two numbers for them to write on their desks (our desks erase Expo). They then arranged their pretzel sticks to show a correct number comparison. It was a quick way for me to see who was understanding the concept and who was not. At the end of our practicing, I gave them each more pretzels to eat. Food makes anything fun, right? Also...head over to First Grade Fun to see some great comparison printables and a game that Janae made!

Love your idea! I've never seen writing on desks before. What kind of marker do you use? How well does it wash?
Thanks!! Snappy--our desks are shiny and smooth on the top. The dry erase wipes off with a tissue! It's nuts! Sometimes the dry erase marker will leave a little streaking, but Clorox wipes removes it!!!
