9.11 kicked off our study of U.S. symbols. We have been learning about the flag, the bald eagle, the statue of liberty and the White House. On Friday, we played "Pin the White House on the map." Students taped their White House pictures to the map, according to where they felt it was located. Then, we read a non-fiction book about the White House. Finally, we went back and looked at our guesses. Only one student had his house on the correct spot. He said "I saw the star with the circle around it." That's one smart cookie!
