So yesterday was Halloween. I expected the day would be fully insane, which is was NOT. Shocking, I know! I sat my kids down early in the day and told them that I had all kinds of fun activities planned for them and that if they were crazy all day, we wouldn't have time to get to them all. That worked. Again, shocking. I began my day by waking up at 4 am {did you see yesterday's post?}. I got into my costume for book character dress up day! I was Go Dog, Go! My costume cost me $14.00! I like to keep it inexpensive for dress up day because let's face it, I probably won't ever re-run my costumes and if I do, I will have to have a bank of about 10 to choose from first. This year I won 1st place! I got a Starbucks card and some candy! Woo Hoo!
Here are some of my friends dressed up! The third grade team was The Day the Crayons Quit. Super cute!!!
So I put off getting the ingredients to make our annual "Witches Brew" {compliments of What the Teacher Wants} and so I had to go to Kroger yesterday at 7:00 a.m. in my costume {muzzle and all}. I made eye contact with no one and it was fabulous. I could feel eyes on me throughout the whole store. LOL!!
To make the brew, I first read the poem. I then went through and underlined all the "creepy" things I'd be putting in. Next, I re-read it and had kids echo me line by line. As we read, I dumped the ingredients in and stirred. I gave kids the individual copies and had them search for sight words with their crayon while I quickly scooped up baggies of the brew. We enjoyed our brew during a movie later in the day! We also had some orange Kool-Aid with it, which the kids were AMAZED by. Don't kids drink Kool-Aid these days? I mean it was only 10 cents a pack. I had sugar, and the water was free, so......that beats buying a jug of juice any day! Let's ignore the amount of sugar in the Kool-Aid, though. I picked up some fun Halloween cups and straws from the Dollar Tree earlier in the month. We watched Tom and Jerry's Halloween {keeping it old school...}.
I even managed to squeeze in reading groups! Can I get an "Amen!?" We played a game from my "Boo to You" centers.
After school I had to rush out for an ortodontist appointment. Always annoying. I saw this jack-o-lantern on the counter and had to take a picture. Very appropriate. Apparantly the dr. makes them!! #putthatonEtsy
Alas, it was time for the trick-or-treaters! 40 degree temps and downpouring rain was awesome. At least I had my coffee and cute pumpkin coozie from Miss Squirrels Shop to keep me warm!
Hope your Halloween was fab! Happy November! Have a great weekend!
