Guided Reading Bags: A Bright Idea

Hi and welcome back for another Bright Idea Linky!  I love these linky parties...so many simple yet good ideas for the classroom!  I just got back from seeing Florida Georgia Line in concert and my ears are ringing, I am tired, and I have like 20 minutes to post this so here we go!

My post/tip is for guided reading bags.  How many times do we scramble for materials we need during guided reading?  I came across these cute bags and decided I could make them into supply bags for my students to access during groups.  You can use gallon ziplocks, or small containers. Each child has a bag and the bags are all filled with the same things.  The things inside are frequent guided reading tools:

-WIKKI STICKS
-Dry erase slate, marker, erase
-Phoneme segmentation/blending mat
-Reading strategies chart
-Mini Magna-Doodle
-Pencil & eraser
-Sight word flash cards
-Highlighter
-Spacer stick
-Whisper phone
*And anything else you use on the reg.

At the beginning of group, the students just grab a bag and come to the table to get started! Everything is at their fingertips.  Easy-peasy!

  1. Hi Megan!
I love this "guided reading bag" idea. This may save some time with transition from one group to another! Where did you get the bag that is pictured or do you make them? I really could use this for my groups since everything takes so long to do!!!
    Many thanks for sharing.
