Writing Goals

I'm back with another writing post!  I love writing workshop time and this year I wanted to add some new elements to my workshop.  With the new rigor of the CCSS and goal-setting/tracking being a best practice {in my opinion!}, I wanted to develop a way for my first graders to set goals in writing.  I've used little goal-setting half-sheets in the past, but I also wanted to see the goals on a larger scale and have the whole class become accountable for one another's goals.  That being said, I created a writing goals poster.  Each quarter, I'll draw names and ask students to tell me one area that'd like to focus on during writing workshop.  I will cut up the sticky notes and write their names on them.  They will place their sticky note on the goal they'd like to set for themselves.  During my conferencing, I will also fill out a paper goal sheet with my students where I can track how they are doing to meet their goal.  Having those will be my paper evidence for conferences, RTI, and parent meetings.  The goal sheets that I am referring to are in my Writing Resource pack shown below, which I recommend for anyone wanting to start writing workshop or anyone that already does writing workshop.
