Interrupting Chicken!!

Chicken!  You interrupted AGAIN!  I just love Interrupting Chicken!  It's a cute read with a good way of explaining interrupting to little ones.

Today, we read the story and did a little activity to go with it.  We sorted cards together and then I asked students to go back and draw one way they could be an interrupting chicken and one way they could be a respectful student.  I loved how they turned out!  Some clever students used speech bubbles with their little inventive spelling!

After students completed the activity, they walked around to music and when it stopped, they shared their work with a buddy.  {I like to do sharing this way, as it gets kids moving and builds social skills.  It does take a lot of modeling in the beginning though!}

I also made an "Interrupting Chicken" board to use during carpet time.  Students start out with as many chickens as you'd like and if there is an interruption, one chicken is removed from the barn.  Click the cover below to grab your free copy of this and the sort/response activities.

Interrupting Chicken is just one of many books that I use this time of year.  To get a free 3-page book list of the books that I read to build respect in my classroom, click the picture below!
