A few weeks ago, my bloggy buddy, Cindy, posted about some adorable heart collages. *Cindy always has such cute and fun ideas!
I knew that I wanted to have my first graders make the collages the minute I saw them! So, in true Wheeler style, I ran to the store, grabbed the goods, and started prepping.
To make these collages, I cut up small strips/squares of pink, red, and white tissue. I also cut strips of Valentine-themed scrapbook paper. You could have your kids cut their own, but I tend to think 10 steps ahead, particularly about situations that could arise with little ones. Hence, I preferred to cut them myself!
I gave students the choice of red, purple, or pink paper for their hearts. I had patterns for them to trace but you could have your kids make their own size hearts if you prefer. Next, I showed them how to "scribble" glue onto the hearts and collage the paper and tissue. We let them dry over night. Finally, we cut them out and I displayed them in our classroom! They are anxious to take them home on Thursday! What fun crafts/art projects are you doing this Valentine's Day?

I love them! I love love love the color scheme! I used to do something similar with Mardi Gras crowns & tissue paper... I will have to add some scrap book paper! I think this is such a great idea!
